From Chemical Engineer to Empowering Entrepreneur

Jameila Bito-on, fondly known as "Jam," is a woman who has gracefully balanced her passion for science, business, and motherhood. With a solid background in chemical and environmental engineering and a heart for entrepreneurship, Jam has transformed her career from engineering expert to a full-time entrepreneur, all while being a dedicated stay-at-home mom.

The Early Days: Engineering Her Future

Jam's journey began at the prestigious Mapua Institute of Technology, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. Her love for the environment soon pushed her to pursue a master’s degree in environmental engineering from the University of the Philippines Diliman. For six years, she practiced her engineering expertise in the water and wastewater industry, working with some of the largest companies in the Philippines. Whether designing, operating, or maintaining plants, Jam was at the forefront of ensuring sustainable water solutions for the country.

Venturing into Business

In 2016, while still working in the engineering field, Jam's entrepreneurial spirit emerged. She started a part-time business importing packaging materials. But her passion for beauty and wellness led her to explore the cosmetic industry. By 2018, she had launched her own cosmetic business, offering high-quality beauty products to her growing customer base.

However, the turning point in Jam's life came in 2020 when she decided to shift her focus entirely to being a full-time entrepreneur and mother. Katipuneras PH was born, a retail brand that not only reflected her entrepreneurial dreams but also her vision for empowering other women through self-care and wellness.

A Journey of Growth and Recognition

Jam’s journey as an entrepreneur didn’t stop there. In 2021, she competed in BPI Sinag, a social entrepreneurship competition aimed at supporting businesses with a purpose. She went on to join notable programs such as the CMDC Hub by Citibank and Bayan Academy, DTI-PTTC Pitchfest, and SM Startup, which helped propel her business forward.

Her drive to continually learn and grow pushed Jam to pursue further studies in digital marketing at the Asian Institute of Management, equipping her with the tools to navigate the digital landscape and scale her business. Her work in the entrepreneurial world attracted opportunities with international digital startups, where she handled clients from Shark Tank—a testament to her growing expertise in both business and marketing.

Juggling Entrepreneurship and Motherhood

Jam’s ability to balance her professional aspirations with her personal life is nothing short of inspiring. As a mom to a young boy, she realized the value of being a stay-at-home mom, and that shaped her decision to shift careers and focus on her family and business. Running Katipuneras PH and Crochet Fiesta—two social enterprises that reflect her values—Jam continues to empower women and promote sustainable, local products.

Currently, Jam works full-time at a SaaS company based in San Diego, California, where she leverages her digital marketing expertise, while also running her two businesses and being an ever-present, devoted mom. She has redefined what it means to be a modern, empowered woman—combining her technical expertise, entrepreneurial drive, and love for her family into a fulfilling career.

A Legacy of Empowerment

Through Katipuneras PH, Jam promotes self-care, wellness, and empowerment, not just for herself but for other women as well. Her journey from chemical engineer to entrepreneur, mother, and mentor showcases the importance of following one’s passion while also balancing personal values.

Jam’s story is a testament to the fact that women can pursue their dreams, build successful businesses, and still be hands-on with their families. Her path continues to inspire others to embrace their multifaceted roles, proving that it’s possible to have a fulfilling career while being a nurturing parent.

As Jam looks to the future, she remains committed to growing her social enterprises and advocating for women’s empowerment—proving that no matter the challenges, it's possible to create the life you truly want.
